John Lopez, 95, of Fairmont passed away peacefully at Ruby Memorial Hospital on May 20, 2011. He was born in Clarksburg, WV, on May 13, 1916, the oldest of several children, born to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lopez.
After receiving his education in Clarksburg schools, John served during World War II in Alaska as a member of the United States Coast Guard. In 1947 he married Genevieve Manzo of Monongah. As a medical professional, John worked in Florida and Ohio before settling in Upper Montclair, NJ, where he became head of the x-ray department of Mountainside Hospital. John attended St. Casian Catholic Church where he was an usher. He enjoyed dancing, attending New York Yankee baseball games and following the West Virginia University football teams. He also loved working in his yard and grilling. Due to poor health, John returned to Fairmont and spent the next several years as a resident of Wishing Well Nursing Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings and his beloved wife.
Surviving John are his sister-in-law Helen Manzo Raspa and her husband Nick, of Fairmont and their children and grandchildren; his sister-in-law Margaret Lopez of Morgantown and her children and grandchildren; his broth-in-law Frank Berlen and daughter Carol of New Jersey; his sister-in-law Louellen Manzo, her daughter Beverly and Bill Deitrick, and their son; nephew Larry Manzo and children.
