Johnnie Lawrence Sullivan, 86, of Fairmont died Saturday (February 9, 2013) at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown. He was born October 23, 1926 in Fairmont, a son of the late Eugene and Edith Furbee Sullivan.
Prior to serving in the U.S. Army, John worked at age 15 in a Goodyear defense plant in Akron, Ohio. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean conflict and was a member of the VFW Post 629.
John retired from Owens Illinois after 37 years as a master electrician and was the owner of Sullivan Rentals in Fairmont. He was an avid boater and aircraft enthusiast. He was a member of the Owenized Boat Club and especially loved to restore old boats. He was Catholic by faith and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by two sons; John L. II and wife Barbara, James Patrick and companion Carol Johnson,all of Fairmont; three grandchildren: Sean and wife Charlene of Fairmont, Kevin and wife Lindsey of Martinsburg, and Jessica Laymon of Fairmont; and four great-grandchildren: Connor, Elizabeth and Kalin Sullivan and Makenna Laymon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Doris Jean Swiger Sullivan; a son Michael Joseph; three sisters: Agnes Johnson, Louise Walker and Edith DeVault; and a brother Eugene “Zip” Sullivan.
The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday February 13, in the funeral home with Deacon David Lester officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family on line at www.domicofh.com.
