Dorothy Jean Cosby

Dorothy Jean (Moore) Johnson Cosby entered into her eternal rest on Tuesday February 12, 2013 surrounded by her loved ones. “Aunt Dot or Mother Dorothy” as she was affectionately known, leaves to continue her legacy her sister, Esther G. Moore of Baltimore, MD; her grandchildren: Ron Carpenter and his companion Tracy Kennedy of Fairmont, WV, Samantha Hinton and Veronica Cirella; her great grandchildren: Eilacha and Elijah; and a very special nephew, whom she reared, Morris (Lisa) Morrison of Mooresville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close family friends whom she loved dearly.

Dorothy was the daughter of the late Lester R. Moore, Sr. and Hattie B. Moore Jones and Austin Jones.

She was a graduate of Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School. Dorothy was employed by NCWV Community Action Agency, Marion County Senior Citizens and retired from Emerge, Inc.

She was a community activist having worked with the WRO/H.E.A.T. programs for many years and was willing to help and share her resources with anyone in need.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Albert Johnson, Jr.; her son Ronald E. Johnson; her daughter Joyce Elaine Johnson; siblings Charles Gilbert, Katherine Nearm, Lester R. Moore, Jr., Gwendolyn Sanders and Donnie O. Moore; a grandson Donald Johnson; a great granddaughter Julia Cirella; and her spouse John Cosby.

The family would like to thank Dr. Patel, Oncology Associates, the medical staff of Fairmont General Hospital, the Pierpont Center, and her family members that provided care and comfort in recent weeks.

Friends and family may call at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday February 16, in the funeral home with Rev. Robert Clay officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery.
