Angelina "Angie"
Pallotta Julian
Mar 17, 1923 — Jul 5, 2021
On 5 th of July 2021, Our Lord sent a small legion of Angels to escort Angelina Agnes Pallotta Julian to the Kingdom of Heaven to join her beloved husband, Louie Julian and other family members and friends. Angie was born in Richwood, West Virginia on 17 March 1923 to Berardino and Carolina (Finamore) Pallotta from Bagnoli del Trigno, Molise, Italy.
Angie was one of seven children and the second born in the United States. She grew up in Richwood during the 1920's and 1930's. The Great Depression was a hardship on her family, as well as most others in America at that time. Despite their difficulties, Angie's childhood home was unique. Through her father's ingenuity, the Pallotta home was one of the first in the area to convert from gas to electric lighting and indoor plumbing. Her father also installed skylights to provide natural lighting in the living space and to conserve electricity. These innovations were not the norm for most of rural West Virginia during that era, especially for those families just struggling to get by.
After graduating Richwood High School in 1941, Angie came to Fairmont to pursue her dream of obtaining a college education and becoming a teacher. She received her degree from Fairmont State in 1945, while working her way through college at various jobs including GC Murphy and the Westinghouse plant.
Upon receiving her elementary teaching degree, Angie's first assignment was a one-room school in Mudlick, Marion County where she taught first through eighth grade. She often recalled that, upon arrival at this first teaching position, she felt she had gone back in time as the Mudlick school building had only gas lights, an outdoor water pump, pot belly stove and an outdoor toilet facility. However, nothing could detract from her love for teaching children as she began her lifelong dream.
Angie went on to educate many Marion County students at Minister's Run and Hammond Brickyard before arriving at State Street Elementary where she taught for 28 years. After spending 38 years overall as an educator, she retired in 1985 while working at Central Elementary. During her time at State Street, primarily teaching first grade, Angie had a profound influence on her students. Over the years numerous former students would call or stop by her home to tell her what a positive influence she had been in their lives during their formative years. Until her death, she received cards, visits and phone calls from past students reminiscing stories and showing their admiration for their beloved teacher.
When summer break came, Angie enjoyed another of her passions, gardening. She spent endless hours tending to her garden, producing and canning some of the best tomatoes, peppers, green beans and zucchini along with lettuce and basil. Her crops were so productive that she would share the plentiful harvest with others. A visit with her in the summer would always have you leaving with a bag full of delicious, homegrown vegetables as well as freshly baked cookies.
As much as she was beloved as a teacher, Angie was dearly cherished as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Angie adored her three grandchildren and they cared deeply for her. She and husband Louie made countless trips to Georgia to be a special part of their lives, celebrating milestones and spending time with them as they grew up.
Angie will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and countless others whom she touched during her life's journey. She was a longtime faithful member of Immaculate Conception Church, never missing weekly mass. The family would like to thank the staff of St Barbara's Nursing Home for the special care and kindness given to Angie while a resident. And thank you to all her friends and family who called, wrote, or stopped by to visit and brighten Angie's days.
Angie was the final surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Louie Julian, her parents, and siblings Teresa Pallotta Rossi Biordi and husbands Giovanni and Tony, Dominick Pallotto and wife Rosie DeRito, Patrick Pallotto and wife Florence Boesse, Gloria Pallotta Grindo and husband Frank, Josephine Pallotta Dietz and husband Palmer, and Mary Pallotta Brucker and husband Donald. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Carol (Winters) Julian of Atlanta, GA, her three beloved grandchildren, Michael, Amy and fiancé JJ Netto, and Lauren Loeb and husband Andy, great-grandson Elliott Loeb, plus numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own children.
Visitation Thursday from 2-8 pm at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue, Fairmont, WV, with vigil service at 7:00 pm. Funeral will be held at Immaculate Conception Church Friday 10:00 am with procession following to Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Memorial donations in Angie's memory may be made to any charity of choice.
