Anthony Hiko
Biafore
Jul 3, 1931 — Apr 29, 2019
Anthony (Hiko) Biafore, 87, of Fairmont passed away on April 29, 2019 in his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born July 3, 1931 in Fairmont, WV, son of Salvatore and Rose Urso Biafore.
Anthony was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Watson, and a proud member of AA for 23 years. He was known for being a hardworking man all of his life. It could be said that Hiko never met a stranger. He loved meeting new people and loved telling stories of his past, especially how he became known as "Hiko."
Anthony was employed by the A & P Warehouse driving tractor trailers, the Owens-Illinois Glass Company, Mon Power Fairmont as groundskeeper, and Consol's Robinson Run Coal Mine from which he retired. But the job he loved the most was landscaping and taking care of his flowers and shrubs. His yard was always a beautiful sight to behold arrayed with many trees, shrubs, and numerous seasonal flowing in spring, summer, and fall as well as year-round bright holiday decorations. One special occupation that Anthony wholeheartedly embraced was teaching several of his grandchildren his love of landscaping and yard work. He passed on to them all he knew about tending to shrubs, trees, and flowers in a meticulous and caring manner. He believed in the adage he repeated over and over to them: "Hard work will never kill anybody." He truly gave his all to make our world a more beautiful place!
In addition to his wife of 63 years, Barbara Skormisley Biafore, Anthony is survived by his children, Debbie Holt and husband Fred of Fairmont, Douglas Biafore and fiancée Donna Morgan of Fairmont, and Wendy Joseph and husband Mark of LaVale, MD. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Tichenor and brothers Richard Biafore (wife Philomena), and Daniel Biafore, all of Fairmont, Virgil Biafore and wife Judy of Richwood, WV, sisters-in-law, Martha Hawkins and Sr. Helen Skormisley, CSJ; brother-in-law Ronald Skormisley and wife Becky, all of Fairmont; and his close friend, Terry Wilson.
Surviving are grandchildren, Jessica Holt of Fairmont, Jonathan Holt and wife Dominique of Williamsburg, VA, Jessup Biafore of Fairmont, Anthony, Patrick, and Luke Joseph of LaVale, MD, J.C. Smith and Kyle Kuroski of Fairmont; great grandchildren Evie Holt-Whaley of Fairmont, Isla and Mila Holt of Williamsburg, VA, Abby, Colton, and Kaden Whaley of Fairmont; and several nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, Anthony was preceded in death by siblings, Frank Biafore and spouse Mary, Dominick Biafore and spouse Mary, Sammy (Ebbie) Biafore, Katie Gregg and spouse Joseph, Angeline Biafore, Louise Merrill and spouse John; sister-in-law, Patricia Biafore; brother-in-law, John Skormisley, Jr.; nephew, Kevin Meredith, Ralph Raspa, companion of Martha Hawkins; and beloved friend, Irene Cavrich, aunt of Anthony's spouse, Barbara.
