Brendan Kyle
Matthews
Nov 26, 1995 — Feb 25, 2021
Brendan Kyle Matthews, 25, of Baltimore, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021. He was born in Mogantown on November 26, 1995, a son of Cami Handlan and husband Joseph "Jody" Handlan of Fairmont and the late Paul David Matthews.
Brendan loved his family fiercely. He loved his family dogs, Rocky, Ty, and River. He loved spending time with his sister, Joslyn. His face would light up when he saw her and hers when she saw him. He loved spending time with his brother, Tristan, and he always looked up to him. He had a smile that would light up a room. He was a kind soul with a big heart. He was so excited about his future with Amanda and starting his career in computer science. Technology was his forte. Brendan enjoyed hiking. He appreciated the majestic outdoors and the peace it represented to him. He got a beautiful tattoo of a wolf and scenery. To him, this represented strength. The wolf also symbolizes loyalty, complexity, high intelligence, fearless, spirit, curiosity, playfulness, fierce protectiveness and devotion to family. Brendan was the epitome of all of these characteristics and more. "The spirit of the wolf lives on and on, though you may not see me, I am there."
In addition to his mother and step-father, Brendan is survived by his brother, Tristan Matthews and his fiancée Deziray, and niece Lennox Matthews, of Baltimore; a sister, Joslyn Handlan of Fairmont; his girlfriend, Amanda Papetti; paternal grandmother, Shirley Matthews of Monongah; maternal grandparents, Mickey and Mike Satterfield of Florida and Earl and Mareia McDougal of North Carolina; step grandparents, Joe and Terry Handlan of Parkersburg; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In addition to his father, Brendan was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Simon Matthews.
