"Duddy the Great", Charles Echols III, 49, of Fairmont, passed away July 30, 2023. He was born February 15, 1974, a son of the late Charles Junior Echols and Pauline Echols.

Charles was employed by EMS and was the "community grasscutter." He was a referee for baseball, basketball, football, and all the other sports for MCPARC.

Duddy is survived by his beloved children: Charles William Echols IV (Miranda), Taleesha Wolfe, and Precious Nariah Pauline Echols; grandchildren: Killian Echols, Malcolm Echols, Zion Echols, Saphier Prince Waring, and SeVayha Queen Aireylle Waring; brother, Samuel David Echols; sister, Malecia Rae McMullins (Will McMullin-Bey); nephew, Juwan Lee McMullin-Bey; niece, Abreonna Niar McMullin-Bey; God daughters Kaitlyn Foster and Dyrell Jones; Helen Louise King and the King family, the Foster family; and a host of family, friends, and loved ones.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Minnie Lee Echols and Charles Echols, Sr.; and maternal grandparents, Mary Foster and Joseph Wheeler; and several aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

The family would like to thank all the friends, loved ones, Community, and family who came together in support of his children and family and Reverend Tony Jones of Morning Star Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at Morning Star Baptist Church, 100 McKinney Street in Fairmont, on Monday, August 7, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral will follow at the church at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Leo Riley officiating and Pastor Phyllis E. Agnew speaking. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairmont. The Pallbearers honoring Duddy will be: Charles Echols IV and Saphier Prince Waring, Michael Echols, Colin Jones, Spencer Morris, Alphonzo Woods, Rudy Jefferson, Anton Jefferson, and Jarin Hilton.
