Deborah Haught Prezioso, 74, of Fairmont, West Virginia, passed away on November 5, 2026. Born on December 13, 1951, to Dorotha and James Haught, Deborah lived a life defined by love, faith, service, and an unwavering commitment to education and her community. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and accomplished educator, Deborah touched countless lives through her kindness, generosity, and dedication to others.

A lifelong advocate for education, Deborah graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1969 and Fairmont State College in 1973. She later earned her master’s degree in education from West Virginia University. She devoted 34 years to teaching in Marion County Schools, inspiring generations of students with her passion for learning, her encouragement, and her belief in the potential of every child. She retired from teaching in 2007, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in the classroom.

Throughout her distinguished career, Deborah received numerous honors recognizing her excellence in education, including being selected twice as a state-level winner for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching. She also shared her knowledge and experience with future educators as a clinical professor and adjunct professor at Fairmont State University. In 1980, she co-authored A Bulletin Board Book for All Seasons, further demonstrating her creativity and dedication to teaching.

Her commitment to education continued well beyond the classroom. Deborah served on the Board of Governors at Fairmont State University, helping guide the institution that had played such an important role in her own life. In 2017, she was honored with Fairmont State University’s Outstanding Alumna Award, a fitting recognition of her professional achievements and lifelong service.

Deborah was a proud member of Phi Mu sorority and Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary organization for women educators. She was also a member of the Marion County chapter of the West Virginia Retired Teachers Association, maintaining her connection to the teaching profession and fellow educators throughout her retirement.

Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life. As an active member of Holy Spirit Church in Monongah, Deborah served as a lector and member of the Pastoral Council. She also taught Parish School of Religion (PSR) classes and was a member of the Holy Spirit Ladies Society. Deborah also devoted her time and talents to numerous charitable and civic organizations, including Meals on Wheels.

Yet, for all her professional accomplishments and community contributions, Deborah’s greatest legacy was the love she shared with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing Bunco and bridge, and gathering with groups for book clubs.

Deborah is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Roman Prezioso; her son, Christopher Prezioso, and his wife, Julie Shank; and her cherished grandchildren, James and Lucia.

She is also survived by her sister, Linda Straight, and her husband, Steve Straight; her niece, Jessica Straight-Bushey, and her husband, Brandon Bushey, and their children, Gabrielle and Lawson; and her nephew, Nathan Straight, and his wife, Molly Corder.

Additional surviving family members include her sister-in-law, Marie Prezioso, and her dear cousin, Nick Scrivo.

Deborah leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured in awards or accolades, but rather in the countless students she inspired, the friends and neighbors she helped, and the family who loved her dearly. Her influence will endure in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Friends will be received at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue, Fairmont, West Virginia, on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A vigil service will be held at the funeral home at 6:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Church on Monday, November 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with Father Meo as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
