Doris Maxine Kubiet, 97, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025. She was born in Norway, WV on August 3, 1928, a daughter of the late Charles Layne and Mary Jackson Layne.

Doris enjoyed traveling and gardening. She was a member of the Carolina Extension Homemakers and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Doris was a giving person who took pride in her love of family, friends, and neighbors.

Doris is survived by her sisters, Carol Elliott (Ronald) of Millfall and Judy Alkire of Fairmont; a brother-in-law, Charles Russell of Fairmont; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Layne of Farmington; special nieces, Stacey Ruppert (Mike) of Bruceton Mills and Cristy Layne of Fairmont; and several other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Joseph J. Kubiet Jr.; sisters, Betty Bowyer (Ed), JoAnne Snider (Bill), and Margaret Faber; brothers, Robert Layne, Johnny Layne, Charles Layne (June), David Layne (Jo), and Bradley Layne (Alice); a brother-in-law, Charles Alkire.

The family would like to thank the staff of Pleasant Acres Christian Haven for their wonderful care and consideration of Doris in her last year. They would also like to thank Hospice for their gentle caring in her final days. The family thanks Domico Funeral Home for their unwavering guidance and assistance in providing Doris her final wishes. A special thank you goes to Frank and Cathy Boyce, close neighbors, who selflessly assisted Doris after her husband's passing with kindness and caring.
