Dorothy Pearl Ricer Conaway (94) passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, in her home as was her wish. She was born at East Run on February 21, 1930, a daughter of the late Clyde & Bertha (Anderson) Hughes. Dorothy was a member of Gateway United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Dorothy was Valedictorian of her graduating class of Farmington High School, an honor that made her immensely proud.
Dorothy and her husband, Roland Ricer owned East Side Florist until his death in 1968. Dorothy then continued as owner of the florist until 1985. She then attended classes at OIC Training Academy which lead her to become the secretary for Marion County Parks and Recreation under Director Ralph Larue. After retirement, Dorothy enjoyed spending winters in Bonita Springs, FL, weekly square dancing, playing Bridge and Maj Jong. She was a longtime member of Nautilus Connection in Fairmont.
Dorothy was the proud mother of two sons, David Lee (Toni) Ricer and Jeffrey Alan (Christine) Ricer, one stepdaughter, Constance "Connie" (Carmen) Meluzio, her grandchildren, Courtney Lynn (Garrett) Carder, Kendra Leigh Ricer (Matt Wade), Ryan Anthony Lee Ricer (Zoe Astroulakis), Michelle Ebert, Jacqueline Altmeyer, William James Ebert, Vernon John Ebert, Meghann Jo Martin, Amy Lauren Logie, her great-grandchildren, Crue Alan Carder and Reed Austin Carder, several nieces and nephews; and dear friends Cinda (Bruce) Sayre and Terri (Danny) Baker.
In addition to her first husband and her parents, preceding Dorothy in death was husband James T. Conaway whom she married in February 1991; her sisters, June Davis, Jean Taft, Rita VanKirk, and brother Lawrence Hughes. Dorothy was the last remaining member of her immediate family.
The family would like to thank Brandy Floyd, Gina Guzzo and WVU Hospice, for the compassion and care Dorothy received throughout her illness.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dorothy's sons, David and Jeffrey, grandsons, Ryan Anthony Lee Ricer, Garrett Carder, Matt Wade and family friend, Porter Stiles.
Dorothy's family will receive family and friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16th at Domico Funeral Home with funeral services conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 17th, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
In the lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to WVU Medicine Hospice Team.
