Obituary

Edwin L. "Bud" Merrifield, 81, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025. We know he is already rejoicing in heaven with those who left before him (and everyone new he can meet).

He was lovingly known as "Uncle Bud" to family and friends. He was a perfectionist at anything he did and loved supervising others, whether he held that title or not. Bud often worked two jobs because loving and supporting his family was his main priority, second only to being a faithful Christian. His wife of 58 years, Sandra, led him to be baptized and supported him to become the man he was -  a good man with a big heart.

What we hope you'll remember about Bud: He'd help anyone anywhere. HE always had candy for all the kids at church. He had been a coal miner, drywaller, construction company owner, and Consol supervisor (again he loved being the boss and retired as that). He was an enthusiast for woodworking, hunting, and fishing, but reading was his favorite pastime, especially anything about history/WWII.

He loved his wife more than anything and always said she was the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. He cherished his three daughters. He dearly loved his first grandson and the fact he finally had another male around. The four grandchildren and three great grandchildren that followed, along with his wife's nephews who he considered as grandchildren, all brought joy and love to his life.

He was ornery and mischievous to get a laugh. He always had a hug for everyone. Pay for someone's meal brought him so much happiness. And he rarely met a dessert he didn't like!

He will be forever missed but never forgotten. He was a loving son, brother, husband, dad, Pap-paw, great grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, and friend. If you had the pleasure of knowing him, you were blessed.

Like everything else in his life, he also loved his country. HE was a Navy veteran, a member of the Sons of the Revolution and will be laid to rest at the West Virginia National Cemetery (with his immediate family in attendance).

Please celebrate his life by doing something kind for someone else. That's how Bud would want it.

From his loving family,

The Merrifield's, Mickley's, Brown's and Moore's.
