Obituary

Eugene Whipkey, 71, of Fairview passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at his residence surrounded by loved ones.  He was born November 20, 1947 in Morgantown, son of the late Eugene and Bertha Whipkey.

Eugene is a veteran of the U.S. Army and a former member of  201 st National Guard in Morgantown for 10 years.  He is a retired coal miner from Consol Coal Company, Loveridge Mines and worked as an EMT with the Marion County Rescue Squad for 20 years.  Eugene loved cars, trucks, cooking and traveling with family.  He attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Fairview and was a graduate of Morgantown High School.  His beloved dog Penny will be buried with him.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jeanette Whipkey of Fairview; two children, Paul Batson and wife Marcia of McCurdysville Pike and Welcome Batson of Winchester, VA; four grandchildren, Forrest Stiles and wife Tarah, Hunter Ann Cuningham and husband Chuck, Autumn Marie Batson, and Austin James Kiger and girlfriend Mara Brielle; two great grandchildren, Darius Stiles, Remington Cunningham, and a new bundle of Joy will arrive in March.

In addition to his parents, Eugene is preceded in death by a daughter, Veronica Batson Kiger; and a sister, Betty Jean Wade.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice, especially Jennifer, Corinna, and Marissa.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, Curry Chapel, 100 Grant St. Fairview, WV 26570, Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Randy Vincent and Pastor Jim Stalnaker officiating.  Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Garden, where full Military rites will be performed by the Westover VFW 9916.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com
