Obituary

Fred Yanero, 82, of Ellicott City, MD passed away peacefully on October 8, 2021. He was born to Frederick and Eleanor Yanero on July 12, 1939 and grew up in Monongah, WV. He graduated from Monongah High in 1957 and from Fairmont St. College in 1961 with a degree in Physical Education. He was a competitive varsity athlete on Golf, Soccer, Track and Basketball teams. Fred taught for 38 years combined at Ashtabula, Dundalk, Milford Mill and Catonsville High Schools and Pikesville Middle School. He excelled as a Basketball coach and led his teams to many County and State Championships over his coaching career before retiring in 1998. For 35 years, Fred enjoyed working at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City sharing camaraderie and his love of the game. He loved being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, cooking his own spaghetti sauce, rooting for WVU, and continued to do 82 pushups every other day until a few months before his passing.

He is survived by his wife Janice of 52 years, son Anthony Yanero and his wife Elizabeth, daughter Emily Yanero, grandchildren Anna and Andrew, brother Danny and his wife Sharon, brother Tom, sister Pamm Yanero Bragg, his nieces Nikki Yanero, Sheena Connors, Cami Yanero, and nephews Chris Yanero, Tommy Yanero, and Corey Bragg and his wife Marisa. He is preceded in death by his brother, Donnie.
