Obituary

Frieda Marie Bowling Michael, 101 years old, passed away Monday morning (November 3, 2025) at her residence, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Cass, WV on January 28, 1924, daughter of the late Lasey and Monna (Johnston) Bowling. She is preceded in death by her husband, James William "Bill" Michael and son, Clyde Jonathan Michael.

Frieda's gentle spirit and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She touched countless lives through her kindness, her laughter, and her steadfast devotion to God. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, friendship, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed by her presence.

Strong in her faith, Frieda was devoted member of the Rivesville United Methodist Church for 86 years where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, Bible School, and was an active member of the United Methodist Women.

She loved reading, often reading multiple books at one time, traveling, working crossword puzzles, which she confidently completed in ink, and cheering on the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Her memory remained remarkably sharp throughout her life and she loved to recall the wonderful moments of her childhood growing up in Cass, West Virginia, where she formed lifelong values of faith, family, friendship, and community.

Frieda was proud of how she raised her family to love each other and how she faithfully served the Lord. She leaves this encouragement for her family and friends – be kind, love each other, and strive to be a good person.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Steven and Paula Michael, daughter-in-law, Yvonne Liberto, and daughter, Paula Filler. Her six grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff Michael, Jim Paul and Kathie Filler, Eric and Lynda Filler, Leighanne and Cathy Michael Michael, Brooke and Michael Walker, Will and Millie Michael; twelve great-grandchildren, Jared, Brennan, and Olyvia Michael, Braylon Garcia, Kayla, Cheyenne, Christian, Hunter, and Jordan Filler, Riley and Morgan Michael, Hendricks Walker, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, husband, and son, she is preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses, Alma (Dana) Craig, Eva (William "Fergie") Furgason, Elaine (Paul) Constable, and William "Bud" (Dora) Bowling.
