Gary Frank
Monell
Sep 25, 1947 — Aug 24, 2021
On August 24, 2021, a wife lost her husband, daughters lost their father, grandchildren lost their hero, and a great granddaughter lost her chance at knowing this exceptional man.
Gary Frank Monell, 73, beloved son of Frank and Maryon Monell passed away after declining health surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Gary graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1965 then joined the Army on the buddy plan. He served in the Vietnam War before being stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska for two years. He was a city firefighter for 15 years and helped run the family business Frankies Supper Club all his life.
Gary loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and riding his four-wheeler to visit his neighbors or deliver canned goods and homemade sausage. He spoiled his grandchildren and never passed up an opportunity to spend more time with them. Gary also enjoyed riding his Harley and taking road trips with his wife.
He was a member of several organizations, such as Disabled American Veterans, VFW, Knights of Columbus, Mobile Riverine Force Association, and Vietnam Veterans of America.
Gary is survived by his wife of 55 years, Catherine (Kitty) Monell; three daughters, Alicia Morgan (Tom), Anna Marie Marion (Cole), and Frankie Jo Monell (Frank Toddre), as well as grandchildren, Brittany Leedom (Jeremy), Alyssa Marion, Brock Marion, Ayden Anthony Toddre, and Kai Joseph Toddre; one great granddaughter, Lucy Jo Leedom; and his furry best friend, Jenny Lee.
He leaves behind his close friends, Karen and Dick Hall, Corina and Mike Bowling, and Jackie Beatty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Maryon Monell, and several sister and brothers -in-law, Jenny and Clark Kisner, Mary Jo and John Fargo, Robert Saltem, Loretta Perkins, Edith Cowger, Robert and Norma Perkins; and close friends, Lil Kester and Bob Beatty.
A huge thank you to Amedisys Hospice, Nurses Corina, Courtney, Annie, and Mark, Aide Angie, Dave at Freedom Home Medical, Sister Stella for being by our side with guidance and strength, VA Doctor Maureen Maseda-Lacaria and VA Nurse Marie Fazzini.
