Obituary

Gary Donald Statler (“Pappy”), 76, of Fairview, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026.

Born on November 27, 1949, in Blacksville, West Virginia, Gary lived a life centered on family, hard work, and the people he loved most.

Gary served his country during the Vietnam War while serving on active duty in the United States Army. After his military service, Gary spent his working career at Federal No. 2 Coal Mine, where he worked as a mechanic and electrician until retirement. He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) and took great pride in working hard, supporting his family, and the friendships he made along the way.

Gary, affectionately known as “Pappy” to those who loved him, cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing brought him more joy than attending the sporting events of his grandbabies whenever he could. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.

There was never a dull moment with Gary. He loved to joke and tease, and he could tell stories that would often leave everyone laughing — including himself, as he would start giggling right along with them. He had a special way of knowing exactly when someone needed a hug or simply needed to hear, “It’s going to be okay.”

Gary’s love for his family was unwavering. There was never any doubt that he would be there to support those he loved, no matter what. His presence, guidance, humor, and unconditional love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

He is survived by his son, Gary Statler Jr. and wife Lisa of Hilton Head Island; his son, Jason Statler and wife Mindy of Wadestown; and his daughter, Susan Statler of Fairview. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Cheyanne Dunfield and husband Tommy of Fairview; Gage Statler of Fairview; Kenly Statler of Wadestown; Lainey Statler of Hilton Head Island; Kooper Statler of Wadestown; and Isaiah Tennant of Fairview. He was blessed with great-granddaughters, Briella and Skyelee Dunfield of Fairview. He is also survived by his sister, Arietta Tennant of Blacksville, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.

Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Statler (“Mammaw”); his parents, Martha Mae (Ammons) Statler and Stanley Dane Statler; his mother- and father-in-law, Florence and Archie Coen; his granddaughter, Madison Brooke Statler; his brother, Ronald Dane Statler; and brother-in-law Bill Tennant.

Family and friends will be received at Domico Funeral Home- Curry Chapel, located at 100 Grant Street in Fairview, WV on Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Rose Saunders officiating. Interment will follow at Olive Cemetery.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to all who cared for Gary during his final days and to everyone who has offered prayers, support, and kindness during this difficult time.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing that Pappy is reunited with his beloved Linda, granddaughter Madison, and brother Ron. His legacy of love, laughter, hugs, stories, and unwavering devotion to family will live on in all who knew and loved him.
