Obituary

George Anthony Thomas, 79, was called to heaven to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Barbara, on Saturday, October 19, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born December 24, 1939, in Worthington, West Virginia, the eldest son of the late George Anthony and Winka Juanita Barcevich Thomas.

He was a Roman Catholic, a 1957 Graduate of East Fairmont High School and the University of Hard Knocks. He enlisted in the United States Army and served 2 years stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After serving his country, he returned home to Fairmont and began working at Owens Illinois Plant. He then went on to be a Police Officer with the City of Fairmont. After his stint with Law Enforcement, he became a successful business man and entrepreneur in Fairmont and Parkersburg, West Virginia.

George was a devoted husband to his beloved wife for 52 years, Barbara Lorraine Thomas, who preceded him in death on September 30, 2015. There was not a day that went by that he didn't profess his love for her and how much he missed her.

George and Barbara were ardently committed to raising their three children. He was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, supporting their growth as well as serving as a mentor, a booster, and patron of their various scholastic and athletic activities. He was extremely generous, loyal, and had a heart of gold. He loved to travel, play cards, and enjoyed watching sporting events. He was extremely proud of his Croatian Heritage and fondly recalled his old country name "Yuda Antonio Tomasich," given to him by his parents and grandparents. His grandparents were immigrants from Yugoslavia and their last name of Tomasich was changed to Thomas at Ellis Island.

He is survived by his eldest daughter, Misty Dawn Thomas Skarzinski and her husband L.D. with whom he made his home for the past four years in Fairmont; his only son, Trevor Thayer Thomas and his wife Michelle of Raleigh, NC; and his youngest daughter, Georgeanne Leigh Heston and fiancé Matt Bosley of Fairmont; his grandchildren, Remington Thomas Skarzinski and Dominique "Nikki" of Morgantown, Ryder Thomas Skarzinski and Brooklyn of Fairmont, Rainy Dawn Heston of Fairmont, Thayer Rockne Thomas of Raleigh, NC, Drake Trevor Thomas of Raleigh, NC, Rhett Anthony Heston of Morgantown, and Lex George Anthony Thomas of Raleigh, NC. He had three great grandsons, Rykien Zane Anthony Skarzinski, Ryis Zade Anthony Skarzinski, and Kash Thomas Skarzinski.

He is also survived by his only brother, Frank Thomas and his sister-in-law, Diane Thomas; two nephews, Frank Thomas and George Thomas and Candi, all of Fairmont; a special niece, Kimberly Bickerstaff Ramage and nephews, Hayden and Chandler Ramage, all of Maurertown, VA, and Brent Anthony Cochran and Melodi of Fairmont; a former business partner, best friend and confidant, Ralph Spadafore of Fairmont; and Godson Torr Spadafore of Fairmont.

The family would like to thank Fairmont Home Health, Molli Johnson, Sandy Toothman and Dr. Peter Ang and staff. They would also like to thank WV Caring for all of their care and compassion this last month.

In honor of George's love for animals and his three cats, Fletcher, Sparkles, and Cali Jo, the family request that all memorial donations be made to the Marion County Humane Society No Kill Shelter, PO Box 905 Fairmont, WV 26554.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Monday, October 21, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon David Lester officiating. Entombment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Cemetery & Mausoleum. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.
