Obituary

Gerald David Winter, 83, of White Hall, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021. He was born April 20, 1938 in Colfax, a son of the late John Edward Winter and Sarah Almeda Monroe Winter.

Jerry retired from Owens Illinois as a machinist/mechanic. He was a member of the Fountain of Life Fellowship in White Hall, Marion County Bee Keepers, and the N.R.A. He graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1956.

Jerry was the rock of the family. A jack of all trades, he was always tinkering with something and could fix anything. He built his own home. He was always quick to lend a hand and never turned anyone down that needed help. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, nature, astronomy, and local history. Jerry was also known as the "Pie Man;" strawberry rhubarb was his specialty.

Ornery to the bone, he also enjoyed a good practical joke, especially when he was the instigator. He was loved by all and will be sorely missed.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Paulette Rogers Winter; his children, Wendy Parks and her husband Alan of Fairmont, Bruce Winter and his wife Cathy of Maine, and Craig Winter and his wife Lori of Maine; step children, Robert Mays of Fort Myers, FL, Sara Mays of Rivesville, and Jimmy Jeffries of Grafton; a brother, Ronald Winter and his wife Skippy of Wisconsin; two sisters, Debbie Ott and her husband Bill of Fairmont, and Karen McCormack and her husband Bill of New York; a sister-in-law, Nana Jo Winter; three grandchildren, CJ Willard, Carly Fluharty, and Adam Taylor; seven step grandchildren; three great grandchildren, Garrett Droppleman, Halle Moore, and Ellanor O'Dell; four step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Angel.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Cole officiating.
