Obituary

Helen Raspa, 99, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in her home as a result of a stroke. She was born on February 1, 1927, the last surviving daughter of the late Carman and Carmella Manzo of Monongah.

Helen graduated from Monongah High School as Salutatorian of her class. She attended Fairmont State College where she met the love of her life and her future husband, Nick Raspa. They were married in 1950 while Helen was working as a long-distance telephone operator. They attended Assumption Catholic Church in Rivesville with their two children. They joined St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and were involved in numerous church activities. Helen was one of the founding members of the St. Elizabeth Guild and took part in many dinners, bake sales, and fundraisers.

When the children were older and the Middletown Mall opened, Helen worked as a sales associate at Stone and Thomas.

At home, Helen hosted family dinners, neighborhood bridge games and visits with friends. She was a voracious reader and completed many ceramic projects for family and friends. She and Nick enjoyed going to the movies, traveling, dancing, square dancing, an occasional casino day, and visiting with family. Helen’s late sisters lived in New Jersey and the family would visit them in the summer. They enjoyed going to the Jersey shore and spending time in New York City.

She is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who were always kind to her, enjoyed her company, and praised her cooking and baking. She was known for her quiet charm and laughter.

In her later years, Helen had several caregivers who made her life comfortable with warmth and laughter and good food. The family would like to than Sara M., Michelle P., Angie J., and Ronda F., for their professionalism, attentiveness, and the joy they brought to Helen.
