Jackie James
Hess, Jr.
Mar 20, 1961 — Apr 14, 2025
Jackie James Hess Jr., or simply known as Hack, was a beloved resident of Fairmont, West Virginia, who passed away on April 14, 2025, after an accident claimed his life far too soon. Jackie was a cherished father, husband, brother, grandfather, and friend whose warmth, kindness, and humor touched the lives of all who knew him.
Born in Heidelberg, Germany on March 20th, 1961. In a US Army Hospital, while his father served, never stopped Jackie from being a proud West Virginian. He called Fairmont home for numerous years during his childhood and senior years. He had made a home in Oregon for decades before returning to the Mountaineer State after the sudden passing of his father. He was the son of the late Jackie James Hess Sr. and Marjorie Hess who preceded him in death. Jackie worked most of his life as a tree trimmer up to the bitter end where he perished doing the thing he enjoyed the most.
Jackie had a passion for hunting, fishing, carpentry, and storytelling. He shared these joys with his family and friends. He was known for infectious laugh and cheesy grin. He had a knack for fixing anything, even things that weren't really broken. His love of telling stories about the good ole days and his ability to land a comedic punchline at the end of all his stories was always a welcome relief to all gatherings. Everyone who knew him knew his somber stories of overcoming adversities such as paralysis, addiction and homelessness. He was a figure of hope and inspiration to any vagabond looking to better themselves. His dedication to his family and helping others leaves a lasting impression and legacy on anyone he interacted with during his amazing life.
Jackie is survived by his loving children Jackie Hess III, Maryanne Hess, his wife Barbara Hess and his cherished grandchildren Jason Hess and Charlotte Hess. His sister Becky Lawson and her husband Dale Lawson and his nephews Michael, Daniel and Matthew Bartolf. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Jason Leonzo Hess.
