James Robert Barnes, Jr., 72, of Fairmont, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021. He was born December 13, 1948, a son of the late James Robert Barnes, Sr. and Vicky McVicker.

Jim lived his life in service to others. Jim was a Veteran of the US Army and was stationed in Alaska. He was the former Founding Director of Scott's Place Homeless Shelter, spent many years as the Supervisor at Marion County Head Start, and was a Social Worker at the Department of Human Services.

He loved playing cards and was an avid bowler and golfer. He was a former member of White Day Golf Club.

Jim is survived by his children, Kristi Renee Barnes and Tanner Paul Barnes and his fiancée Hannah Tarley; his granddaughter, Eviana Maria Barnes; and a brother, David Barnes.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his siblings, Ronnie McVicker and Barry Barnes; and his aunt, Midge Fultz.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The funeral will be Friday at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Larry Buckland officiating.
