James Arlie Harker, 77, of Fairview, passed away at Mon General Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born March 13, 1942, of the late John Wesley "Hoover" Harker and Violet Ruth Toothman Harker. He married Linda Baker on November 27, 1964. They shared 54 years of marriage.

He is survived by their two children and spouses; Kirsten Lyn Harker Hall and husband Eddie of Wadestown and Bradley James Harker and wife Alicia of Fairview. James has five grandchildren, Allison Alyse Hall, Zachary Edward Hall, Andrew Bradley Harker, Hannah Marie Harker, and Brooklyn "Pooch" Grace Harker. Also surviving is his sister, Connie Pyles; brother, Rev. Larry Harker and wife Mary Ellen; and sister, Janet Elaine Ammons and husband Danney. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Aunt Ruby Toothman of Fairview, and Aunt Jeanne Snodgrass of San Diego.

James also leaved behind many close friends at the "Tuesday Breakfast Club," as well as, very dear Air Force friends whom he cherished and met with every year, Jim and Nancy Shelton of Lenoir City, TN, Barry and JoAnn Poffinberger of Jefferson, MD, and Rick and the late Theresa Myers of Moscow, PA.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Ronnie Pyles and Gary Baker; maternal grandparents, Arlie and Synthia Toothman; paternal grandparents, Martha and James Harker; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ronald and Ida Baker.

James was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and presenter of the Children's sermons. He was a graduate of Fairview High School and attended Fairmont State College. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, Strategic Air Command, 42 ^nd Transportation Squadron 1966-1970. He was a machinist at Aultman Pump Company and D & G Machine Company.

He was a member of the Gideon's International Organization, the American Legion Post 0200, Fairview Lions Club, and the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department (where he served as President for 8 years). He was the 1994 recipient of the Mary Sturm award and past Mayor of Fairview, and served on the town council for several years, as well as coached Little League for 9 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in James' name to the St. Paul Baptist Church in Fairview.

The family will receive friends at the St. Paul Baptist Church in Fairview on Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. Larry Harker officiating. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton with full military rites conducted by the Marion County Honor Guard.
