Jeffrey L. Clagett, known by everyone as Jeff, was found deceased at his home on Bunner Ridge Road on Monday, February 16, 2026. He was born in Clarksburg, WV on November 2, 1956, the second of four children born to the late William and Catherine Garcia Clagett.

Jeff was a 1974 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, playing center on the football team. He attended West Virginia University where he studied Geology.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter, so much in his younger days that friends often said he was living his work and retirement years in reverse.

He spent his work years up until the time of his death mostly in the oil and gas business. His primary services were provided to wholesale and retail petroleum sellers, including gas stations, convenience stores, and distribution in the form of tank testing and related functions to ensure that his customers were in compliance with all safety and environmental laws and regulations.

He is survived by his siblings, Michael Clagett and spouse Lisa, Rebecca Waldeck and spouse Marc, and Steven Clagett and spouse Mary; and also cousins, Julia Todd and Gia Deasy and her spouse Jay Urse. Also surviving is his constant canine companion, Elmer, who not only accompanied Jeff to all work and leisure sites, but was loyally with Jeff from the time of his death until his body was discovered several days later.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several canine companion s who each served in the same capacity as Elmer until their deaths.
