Obituary

Jesse Lee Jones, Jr., 76, of Grant Town, West Virginia, peacefully departed this life on the evening of Friday, January 9, 2026, at his home, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in 1949 in Fairmont, West Virginia, Jesse was the son of the late Jesse Jones, Sr. and Mary Lee Jones of Grant Town. He attended Grant Town Grade School and was a graduate of Fairview High School. Jesse was a Christian by faith. He was a retired coal miner with 38 years of dedicated service and a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America, Federal No. 2.

Jesse was married for 32 years to the love of his life, Alta "Boonie" Jones, who preceded him in death. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and hard work.

He is survived by his life partner, Carol Rice; his daughters, Angela Jones of Grant Town, Anita (Deion) Frazier of Jacksonville, Florida, Janeice (Isaac) Stanley of Fairmont, West Virginia, and Arlean (Sean) Wallace of Fairmont, West Virginia; and his son, Duane Martin of Fairmont, West Virginia.

He is also survived by his brothers, John Paul (Jackie) Jones and Anthony "Bo" Haley of Jacksonville, Florida; and his sisters, Mary Ellen Jones of Grant Town and Stephanie Dowdell of Muncie, Indiana. He leaves behind a devoted nephew who was like a son to him, Stephen (Debra) Jones of Maryland, along with several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jesse's grandchildren include Jessica Frazier of Jacksonville, Florida; Thomas (Haley) Hall II of Grant Town, West Virginia; Akeelah and William Wallace of Fairmont; Dedrick John of Morgantown; Matthew and Alycia Stanley of Fairmont; and Trenton Stull of Morgantown. His great-grandchildren include Aniya Inman of Jacksonville and Jesse Lee "J.J." Jones IV of Grant Town.Jesse was also blessed with extended family, including Fran Rice of Fairmont; Eric, Angela, Malcolm, and Peyton Figueroa of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Mary Quarterman of Fairmont.

He leaves cherished memories with his dear friends Gloria Jean Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada; Cindy Black of Grant Town; Velma Parker of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and a very special cousin, Norma Brooks of Buffalo, New York. He also held close his devoted friends Lloyd and Laquita Moore of Grant Town, and his cousin, Charlie (Patty) Jones of Atlanta, Georgia.

In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his son, Jesse Jones III; his sister, Paulette Jones; and his beloved grandson, Dominick John.
