John Frank Mentus, 93, of Fairmont, passed peacefully at home in his wife's arms on December 28, 2020. He was born on October 10, 1927 in Grant Town, WV, the son of the late John Mentus and Sophia Latocha Mentus.

As a young man, John worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Fairmont, WV.  In his work as a mould maker at Ross Mould Company formerly Ball Brothers Corporation in Washington, Pa., John produced moulds and designed glass containers with its cursive "Ball" logo on the bottom of the jars for over 50 years, never missing a day of work until the plant temporarily closed forcing his retirement.

John was a graduate of St. Peter's High School and enjoyed playing basketball for his alma mater. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Fairmont where he served as  Exalted Ruler (Executive Officer/President of the Lodge) for many years.  John was a Catholic by faith attending St. Peter's Catholic Church every Sunday where he was an usher in mass.

John was a family man, his family always came first. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren attending all their sporting activities, dance recitals, and pageantry events. He loved to go hunting with his son and nephew and fishing with his son and daughter.  He loved to watch WVU football and basketball games.  One of his favorite past times was to bring home lottery tickets for his grandchildren to scratch off and keep.

John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joan Mentus; children, John Gregory Mentus and his wife Heidi, and Deborah Falconi and her husband Larry; grandchildren, Alexandria Mentus, John Michael Mentus, Abby Sanders, Kristen Falconi, and Kyle Falconi; sisters, Irene Mentus and Mary Mentus; nephews, Johnny Joe Mentus, Frank Skubis, and Albert Jr. Skubis; and niece, Linda Chico.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Skubis.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Joan Mentus, 1219 Woodland Crescent, Fairmont, WV 26554, to assist with funeral expenses.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Friday, January 1, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be at the funeral home on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 10:15 a.m. with Father Vincy Illickal officiating.
