John Richard "Whitey" Selan, 79, of Rivesville, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024. He was born in Fairmont on November 26, 1944, a son of the late Robert Selan and Irene Runewicz Selan.

He retired from Federal Mine #1 in Grant Town after 21 years. He was Catholic by faith.

He is survived by his wife Mira Beth Selan; his daughters, Deborah Stewart and her husband William of Florida, and Ashley Irene Selan and Gary Harras of Virginia; grandchildren, Kylee Harras, Tera Joanee Harras, David Karr, Jennifer Karr, and Kyle Colvin; great grandchildren, Daphne, Owen, Millie, and Ensley; brother, Joey and Susie Selan of Grant Town; sisters, Diane Holly and her husband Ivan of Grant Town, and Donna Thomaschek and her husband Tom of Barrackville; mother-in-law, Jo Ann Vangilder; brother-in-law, David Vangilder; sister-in-law, Jamie Vangilder; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles "Chunky" Selan; and two brothers-in-law, Scott and Bradley Vangilder.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The funeral will be at the funeral home on Friday at 12:00 p.m. with Father Joseph Konikattil officiating.
