John Dale Wilson Shaffer, age 72, of Fairmont, WV went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 23, 2019 after a long battle with cancer, at home surrounded by family and close friends.  He was born on November 14, 1946 in Fairmont and was the only child of John D. and Mollie Shaffer.  He established an owner-operated recycling company, SOS Salvage, in 1980.

John bragged that he never worked a day in his life because he loved what he did.  He learned to drive trucks at a young age and kept that passion throughout his life.  Additionally, he enjoyed restoring a nice semi-truck, Harley or muscle car and spending time with his close friends.

John was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He is survived by his wife of over forty-six years, Cathy Shaffer; his mother, Mollie Shaffer; his three daughters – Natalie Michael, and her daughter, Jena, of Mannington; his daughter Lori Miller Flint, her husband Josh and her children Haylee and Hayden Miller, of Fairmont; his daughter Kelly Henderson, her husband Tim and their son, Jacob, of Fairmont; his late son John Richard's children Caitlin Towns, Addie Shaffer, and John Carter Shaffer and grandchildren Andrew Hardesty and Ryleigh Towns, of Fairmont.

John is preceded in death by his son, John Richard Shaffer; his father, John D. Shaffer; and his grandparents Percy and Arminta Shaffer and Clyde and Phoebe Harris.

Visitation will be held at Domico Funeral Home at 414 Gaston Avenue, Fairmont, WV on Wednesday, June 26 ^th from 2-8 pm and on Thursday, June 27 ^th from 12-2 pm, followed by a service at 2 pm, officiated by Pastor Ed Carpenter. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.
