Obituary

Larry "LaLa" Richard Merico, 92, of Grant Town passed away September 5, 2021 at his Residence from a lengthy illness.  His loving and devoted wife, Agnes, was at his bedside. They have been married for 61 years.  He was born in Grant Town on June 30, 1929, son of the late James and Lillian Delligatti Merico.

LaLa was known by many for his kindness, loving and giving spirit.  He always had a story to share and a song to sing.  LaLa had a weekly article in the Times West Virginian, "LaLa's Porch" for many years.  He attended Grant Town Grade School and Fairview High School.  He played basketball and softball. Member of UMWA Union Local 4047.

He was employed over the years by the GT Water Department, WV State Road, Marion County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy and later in life as a process server, Chief of Police for Grant Town.  He retired from Eastern Coal Federal #1.   LaLa was a veteran of the Korean War where he served under the Army/Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes "Jeepie" Mae Mocsary Merico of Grant Town, two daughters, Rose Ellen Merico Suplita and husband Brent of Fairmont, Teresa Merico (Gary Muhlestien) of Elkins.  Rose was affectionally known to her father as "Elder" and Teresa was known as "Baby".  One Granddaughter, Grandpas Princess, Jessica Rhea Owings (Thomas Clark) of Charleston, SC.  Two Grandsons, Justin Michael Dublin of Fairmont, Ryan Thomas Dublin of Fairmont.   Great Granddaughter Abrielle "Abri" Jorja Dublin of Fairmont.  Baby Sister, Lois Merico Joy and Raymond of Monongah, Sister-in-Law, Juanita Merico of Fairmont.

Preceded in death by his precious son, James Thomas "Tommy" Steven Merico.  Tommy died when he was eight years old when he went to Heaven.  LaLa grieved his son until the day he passed.  Five brothers, Anthony, Jesse and Tony, Joseph, and Charles.  And six sisters, Rose Merico Yerace, Clara Merico Beccaloni, Viola Merico McCafferty, Edith Merico Nowlen and Eva Merico Michael.   Several nieces and nephews that called him "Uncle".  LaLa believed that Family "Famiglia" was everything.   He was a very devoted and caring man.

Domico Funeral Home is taking care of the body and arrangements.  As the body will be donated to Science and then Cremated.  There will be no services, all per his request. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.  The family wants privacy at this heart breaking time.
