Lawrence "Scooter" Raymond
Brooks
Apr 14, 1969 — May 16, 2026
Lawrence Raymond “Scooter” Brooks, 57, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at his home in Fairmont, West Virginia. He was born on April 14, 1969, in Fairmont, West Virginia, to the late Elsie Louanna Brooks and Howard Frederick Brooks, Sr.
Lawrence attended Grant Town Grade School, Fairview Middle School, and North Marion High School before graduating from East High School in Akron, Ohio, in 1988. During his school years, he played football and basketball. He also grew up surrounded by music and especially enjoyed singing in his younger years.
Lawrence enjoyed fishing every chance he got and could often be found sitting peacefully along the bank of a lake or creek with a fishing pole in hand, spending that time with his brother.
Lawrence possessed a remarkable talent for automobile detailing and dedicated more than 30 years to the profession he truly loved. He first learned the trade from his cousin, Charles “Chuckie” Mack of Akron, Ohio, and later worked alongside his cousins, Paul Mack, Sr., and the late Howard Mack. Throughout his career, he worked at several dealerships across Ohio, West Virginia, and Georgia.
After returning to Fairmont in the early 1990s, Lawrence worked for years as a detailer at Wilson Ford. In 1999, he moved to Georgia and began working at Stone Mountain Toyota, where General Manager Steve Crane became his mentor and provided an opportunity that helped shape his future. Lawrence’s outgoing personality, strong work ethic, and genuine heart quickly earned the respect and admiration of those around him. Over time, the bond between Lawrence and Steve grew far beyond that of employer and employee, and Steve came to love him like a son. Affectionately known as “Big Larry,” Lawrence left an impression on everyone blessed to know him.
In 2009, Lawrence founded Super Sudz Hand Car Wash & Detailing Services, where he built a respected reputation for excellence, professionalism, and pride in his work. Through his business, he provided detailing services for several dealerships, including Anthony Chevrolet, Dan Cava Toyota, Parrish Auto Sales, Larry Myers Subaru, Freedom Hyundai, Waterfront Jeep, and Sowers Auto, among others.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Louanna Brooks; his father, Howard Frederick Brooks, Sr.; his aunt, Josephine Mack, who lovingly raised him after the loss of his mother; his aunt, Catherine Taylor; his cousin, Fred Taylor; his stepbrother, Gerald Trotter; his mother-in-law, Mercyre Sumlin; his father-in-law, Alonzo Floyd Sumlin; and Evelyn Shriver, who affectionately treated him as a son.
Lawrence is survived by his devoted wife and caregiver, Kimberly Brooks; his daughter and caregiver, Kala Brooks; and his son, Kameron Brooks (Hailey), all of Fairmont, West Virginia. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Blake Anthony Brooks, Jay Christopher Brooks, and Malayah Mercyre Brooks, who was only one month away from meeting her beloved “Gee-Gee.”
Also left to cherish his memory are his stepmother, Norma Brooks; his stepsister, Sherry Trotter of Buffalo, New York; his brothers, Howard Brooks, Jr., Joe “Pete” Brooks (Gina), and his uncle Charles “Butch” Yeater, all of Fairmont, West Virginia, and Napoleon Brooks of Canton, Ohio; his younger half-brother, Martin Brooks of Fairmont, West Virginia; and his older half-brother, Anthony Brooks-Clarke of Arkansas.
Lawrence also leaves behind Dave Shriver of Worthington, West Virginia; Nate Walker of Dallas, Texas; Dale Moore, Arthur Broadnax, and Greg Pratt, all of Fairmont, West Virginia, all close friends whom he considered brothers.
In addition, Lawrence will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, including Terry Abrams of Canton, Ohio; Gary and Kimberly Fleming, Alvin Turner, Mrs. Mary Quarterman, Darnell Anthony, Danny Spitznogle, and Jason Hayes, all of Fairmont, West Virginia; Lambert Horton of Hagerstown, Maryland, Ronnie Campbell of Grafton, West Virginia; the awesome crew at Monroe Muffler in Fairmont; and the many others whose lives he touched through his kindness, dedication, and friendship.
