Linda Lou
Stevenski
May 20, 1937 — Jan 11, 2021
Linda Lou Stevenski, 83, of Monongah, passed away at her residence on Monday, January 11, 2021. She was born on May 20, 1937 in Monongah. Linda was raised by foster parents Hustead D. "Tommy" Tomlinson and Clarinda R. McDonald Tomlinson.
Linda graduated from Monongah High School in 1955. While in high school, she met Andy J. Stevenski of Grafton at the Twelfth Street Skating Rink in Fairmont. He was her "Lifetime Love." They were married for 61 years until he went into the arms of Jesus on April 10, 2017.
After graduation, Linda visited her aunt and uncle in Glen Ellen, CA, where she met the great nephew of Jack London. He knew she liked to write, so he took her on a tour of the London estate. This made her want to write more than ever.
At the age of ten, she had some poems published in the Times West Virginian . As a senior in high school, she won the American Legion essay contest. This was just the beginning of a lifetime fulfillment of being an author.
Linda's 11 th book was released by her current publisher, Austin Macauley Publishers of Wall Street, New York in March of 2020. The COVID-19 epidemic prevented her from doing any book signings, readings, or other promotions. "Nila, White Feather" was written for young adults. She was working on another book when she passed on to our Lord and Father.
She was a member of West Virginia Writers, the Appalachian Writers, and the Writer's Guild of America. Her name is engraved in a stained-glass block at Tamarack in Beckley, West Virginia.
Linda wrote her books for children and young adults – which was a true talent to be able to write for both. She also enjoyed writing about the antics of her six children while they were growing up. She always wanted to give something back to all children, and to hopefully inspire young writers at the same time. She gives thanks to God for giving her the ability and desire to write.
She also had a passion for growing house plants, outdoor plants, and flowers. She was an excellent cook. But most of all, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Linda attended Cross of Christ Community Church. It was the former Trinity Independent Church of Monongah and Trinity United Methodist Church. She belonged to this church since she was three years old.
Her life itself was the greatest testament to faith as she lived wit h a rare blood cancer (Waldenstrom's) for 27+ years, a cancer that usually terminates in 2-3. Breast cancer and a few skin cancers would not deter her from her strong Christian beliefs and faith. But a fourth unknown cancer would quickly bring her home to Heaven.
She is survived by two daughters, Andrea Stevenski, residing at home, and Linda Moore and husband Tom of Little Mill Fall; four sons, Tim Stevenski and his wife Cindy of Grant Town, Andy C. Stevenski and his wife Sharletta of Grafton, Thomas Stevenski and fiancée Kim Wright of Booths Creek and Daniel Stevenski, residing at home.
Twelve grandchildren include Chris Stevenski and wife Holly, Amy Toothman and husband Brad, Melanie Gooch and husband Brandon, Chase Stevenski, Tiffany Stevenski, Andy Stevenski, and wife Mandy, Adam Stevenski, Brittany McCullough, Jonathan McCullough and wife Sara, Michael Nicholson and wife Clarissa, Destiny Nicholson, and Danny Stevenski.
Great grandchildren include Gage and Roman Stevenski, Weston, Avery, and Haley Toothman, Memphis Gooch, Tristan (Collins) Stevenski, Austin and Aubrey Stevenski, Bryant, Aubreym and Ceecie Ariana Nicholson.
She also leaves behind an aunt, Anna Lough of Fairmont; sister-in-law, Mary Nucilli of Elkins; niece, Libby Nucilli of Elkins; and nephews Mike (Marg) Nucilli, Carl Nucilli, Jim (Rebecca) Nucilli, and Rob (Terri) Nucilli.
Linda was also preceded in death by her brother, Bill Hammond of Four States, and sister, Berldine Mills of PA, who followed her progress after being fostered. Her writings also led her to become in touch with a favorite niece, Sylvia and nephew, Jack (Cynthia) Rose of Carmichaels, PA; niece Vera (Frank) Smith of Rivesville, and a half-sister, Martha Sutcliffe of Mineral Ridge, OH.
Donations may be made to Linda's two cherished local charities, The Soup Opera, PO Box 10, Fairmont, WV 26554, or The Union Rescue Mission, 107 Jefferson Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Memorial donations can also be sent to Cross of Christ Community Church, 77 Mill Fall Road, Fairmont, WV 26554 or Amedisys Hospice, 67 Casino Drive, Anmoore, WV 26323.
The family has entrusted Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, with the arrangements. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all services will be held privately with Pastor Bill Preston officiating. Interment will be held privately at Grandview Memorial Park & Mausoleum.
