Obituary

Mariam Louise Hawkins, 99, of Fort Myers, Florida (former longtime resident of Dakota) passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018 at her home. Mariam was born July 20, 1919 in Hutchinson, Marion County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Harold Ernest and Ethel (Heskitt) Hough.

She attended Pitcher School at Dakota, Barnes Junior High School, graduated from Fairmont Senior High School and graduated from West Virginia Business College in Fairmont. Formerly worked at the Imperial Ice Cream Company, Westinghouse Electric Corporation, H & R Block, and retired as secretary from Miller Junior High School.

She was a member of Highland Avenue United Methodist Church, belonged to the Lydia Circle, member of the Daughter of the American Revolution, Marion County Board of Education Retired Secretaries and Clerks, and the Marion County Genealogy Club.

Mariam enjoyed playing the organ and was a pianist, organist, member of the Adult Choir at Highland Avenue United Methodist Church, a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School music director, and pianist and organist at Pitcher United Methodist Church.

Mariam is survived by two sons, Kevin Bradley (Deborah) of Cranberry Township, PA, and Rodney Clark (Adriana) of Fort Myers, Florida; three grandchildren, Scott Adam Hawkins of State Park, PA, Matthew David Hawkins of Fort Myers, FL, and Danielle Elizabeth Jackson (Benjamin) of Austin, TX; one great grandchild, Rosalie Rayne Jackson or Austin, TX; one sister, Rosalynne Lea Morton (Marvin) of Maidsville, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mariam was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Otis Hawkins, who died January 14, 2002; and a brother Richard Harold Hough, who died September 17, 1934.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum in Shinnston on Friday at Noon with Rev. Micah Blanks officiating. Entombment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.
