Marilyn Alvaro, 90, of Fairmont, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2026. She was born in Virginia on January 4, 1936, a daughter of the late Chris and Betsy Ryder.

Marilyn was the director of Head Start for over 30 years. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Marilyn was an avid gardener, thrift shopper, and story teller.

Marilyn is survived by her son, William “Bill” Alvaro and his companion Shelly Shuck of Fairmont; grandchildren, Thomas Alvaro of Fairmont, Abigail Shuck of Fairmont, Michael Byrley of South Carolina, and David Byrley; and a sister, Vicky Parker and her husband Jerry.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Dominick “Mickey” Alvaro; and sons Dominick “Peanuts” Alvaro and Christopher Alvaro; her brother, William Ryder; her sister-in-law, Marcella Ryder; and a granddaughter, Sandi Alvaro.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The service will be at the funeral home on Friday, July 17, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating.
