Marvin M. Summers, 81, of Fairview passed away on August 7, 2020 at his residence surrounded by family.
He was born May 26, 1939 in McCurdysville, a son of the late Clyde and Retta Varner Summers.
He started out as a young man at the Grant Town Garage. He also worked construction and retired from Fairview Bit Company with 36 ½ years of employment. He was a proud member of the Fairview Vol. Fire Dept. actively serving for 35 years. His favorite pass time was mowing, hedge trimming, and spending time at Dobbins Service Center. He was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and NASCAR. He enjoyed spending time on his porch with his family and friends and passing out his famous mint candies.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Janet K. Knisely Summers; two children, Kenneth (Cheryl) Summers and Tammy (Mike) Gump, both of Fairview; three grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) Bland of Fairview, Kayla (Charlie) Given of Mannington, and Shontae Shaheed of Louisiana; one great grandchild, Westin Lee Bland; and one great grandchild, Baby Given arriving January 2021; three sisters, Ruby Summers, Patty (Steve) Kish, both of Fairview, and Betty Ruth Bulkoski of Ohio; three brothers, Dave (Margaret) Summers of Fairview, Otis Summers of Fairview, and Bill (Toni) Summers of Grant Town; one sister-in-law, June Bauer of Pennsylvania; one brother-in-law, James (Carolyn) Knisely of Mannington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ellen (Carl) Jarvis, Madelyn (Howard) Brummage, Jean (Everett) Barr, and Jaretta Gail Summers; two brothers, Frank (Lottie) Summers and Chester (Betty) Summers; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joy and John Knisely; brother-in-law, William R. (Geneva) Brown; Johnny M. Knisely, James K. Williams, and Carl Bauer; one granddaughter, Alicia Dawn Shaheed; sister-in-law, Lillian Summers; brother-in-law, Edward Bulkoski; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home – Curry Chapel, 100 Grant Street in Fairview, on Monday, August 10, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Duane Stiles officiating. Interment will follow at Bassnettsville Cemetery with Fireman's Honors rendered. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Fairview Food Pantry or West Virginia Rescue Ministries.
