Mary Burt (Cottingham), 81, of Fairmont, gained her wings on Thursday, December 28, 2023. She was born in Everettsville, WV on April 20, 1942. She is the daughter of the late Donald Gilbert Burt and Vivian Sherer-Burt.

After her mother passed away at a young age, she was raised by her father and late Aunt Mary (May Fannie) Speigner. Mary was baptized at a young age by the late Rev. Linear.  She went Morgantown High School. She worked at a hospital in Long Island City, NY for 18 years. Mary truly loved God, and enjoyed spending time with her family, showering them with love and quality time.  She loved music and dancing and watching Madea plays and movies. She would always say, "God is good, you can be the best at anything you want and don't take no wooden nickles."

She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters Maria (Steven) Cottingham-Dukes and Shirley Cottingham, both of Fairmont and two sons Michael (Ashley) Cottingham of Fairmont and Donald (Desiree) Cottingham of Clarksburg.  Mary is also survived by four granddaughters Maliyah Cottingham, Shonetta Cottingham, Somaya Cottingham and Zariah Cottingham, five grandsons, Anthony Cottingham, Antonio Cottingham, Tremaine Cottingham, Tobias Cottingham and Peyton Barker, ten great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Barker, Kieshawn Cottingham, Azlynn Cottingham, Jaden Cottingham, Javier Davison, Aliyah Cottingham, Jonathon Cottingham, Janiyah Gonzales, Zariah Carp, and Tayvon Cottingham. Also she leaves behind a special nephew Clarence Akers Jr.

She will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents Donald and Vivian Burt and Aunt that raised her Mary Speigner, Mary was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Cottingham and James Cottingham, Jr.; one granddaughter Shantae' Cottingham and one grandson John Cottingham. Also, two sisters Viola Akers and Retha Carter, one cousin Louise Speigner that she was raised up with like a sister, one brother Ernest Burt and one nephew Anthony Akers.

Family and friends will be received at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Saturday, January 6th, 2024 from 12pm-1pm.
