Obituary

Mary Jo Hamrick, 85, of Fairmont, WV, passed away at her home on Monday, December 20, 2021. She was the daughter of Jack and Elizabeth Bernardo.

Mary Jo retired from Alcan Aluminum where she was a receptionist and switchboard operator for 25 years. Prior to working at Alcan, she was a telephone operator at C&P Telephone Company, worked for Anthony Chevrolet Cadillac and, while in high school, she worked for her brother, Louie, who owned Bernardo's Bakery in downtown Fairmont.

Mary Jo loved animals and people. She had many cherished friends. Many whom she had been friends with since grade school.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hamrick in 2010, both of her brothers and six sisters.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by two nephews: Jack Bernardo and his wife Linda of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Vincent Bernardo of Fairmont. She is also survived by her niece, Mary Lou McDonald and her husband Rodney of Fairmont, and a very close special cousin, Frances Thobois and her husband Patsy. The family would like to thank all of Mary Jo's amazing neighbors on Village Way that have looked after her since her husband passed away. Especially, Betty Jo Moran and Doug & Rosella Amos and their son Tanner whom she thought of as a grandchild.

Lastly, she is survived by her beloved dog and constant companion, Pebbles. She could often be seen driving around Fairmont with Pebbles by her side.

Mary Jo's request for immediate cremation, no funeral home visitation and private burial will be honored. Her cremains will be laid to rest next to her husband's at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion County Humane Society at PO Box 905 Fairmont, WV 26554 or online at mchswv.com/donate.

A memorial dinner will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.
