Obituary

Mary Louise Scritchfield, 80, of Tower Hill, Monongah died December 3, 2022 at the Tygart Center in Fairmont, WV after a long battle with COPD and CHF.

Mary was born in Marion County on October 17, 1942 to the late Carl and Mary "Opal" Cremeens.

She is survived by her children John "Douglas" Scritchfield and wife Cheryl of Monongah,  Tim Scritchfield and wife Kathy of Monongah, Gary Scritchfield and wife Judy of Monongah, Victoria Ashcraft and husband Eric of Mountain; sister Hilda Scritchfield of Farmington; grandchildren Chrissy Shaver and husband Jimmy, Josh Scritchfield, Beth Scritchfield and fiancé Breann Dean, Samantha Lieving and husband Matt, Dillon Scritchfield and wife DeAnna, Curtis Scritchfield, Johnny Scritchfield and partner Jordan, Andrew Ashcraft and wife Ashley, Zachary Ashcraft and wife Whitney, Will Ashcraft, and Andy Mines; Great Grandchildren Alex Shaver, Brynley Scritchfield, Legend and Liza Lieving, Lakelynn Scritchfield, Chloe Etheridge, Victoria Frampton and her daughter Imarah Frampton.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Mary "Opal" Cremeens; her beloved son Michael Edward; grandson TJ Scritchfield; husband John H.  Scritchfield; sisters Shirley Hamrick, Georgia Ann Swiger, June Scritchfield; and  Lee Scritchfield.

Mary was a born again Christian and liked to listen to gospel music. She found pleasure in building jigsaw puzzles, completing words searches, and watching old cowboys on INSP. Mary loved feeding and watching hummingbirds frolic in the warmer months and also liked to feed various birds that visited her yard in the winter time. She enjoyed gardening and canning fruits and vegetables. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her entire world! She was the Rock that held the family together and will be sorely missed. She acted as though she never met a stranger and was always happy to lend a hand to others in need. Mary was an amazing cook. She enjoyed keeping her family well fed with her home cooked meals and retired as a cook from Pleasant Acres. Mary was most herself when she was taking care of others. This was evidenced by her helping to raise many of her nieces and nephews as well as her own rowdy brood. She was a natural caregiver and worked many years at the Senior Citizen Center as an in-home aide.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bill Preston officiating.
