Obituary

Michael Loss, 73, of Worthington, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024. He was born March 21, 1951 in Fairmont, the second son of three to Arnold "JB" and Suzanne Loss (Barr). He attended West Fairmont and Monongah High Schools.

Mike proudly served his country in Vietnam as a Combat Engineer with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade in Germany. Loss was a team chief in an Atomic Demolition and Munitions Company and Commander of the Unit Police.

After the Army, Mike went to college on the G.I. Bill studying Political Science and History at WVU. He worked as a construction worker.

In 1982, Mike was selected by the Department of Natural Resources as a conservation officer. After graduating from the West Virginia Police Academy, he was assigned to Logan County. Over the course of his career, he worked throughout the state, but eventually became the Wetzel County Officer.

Mike also worked as a surface mine inspector for the Department of Environmental Protection, a night monitor and phlebotomist for Kendle, and a manager for the Indiana Troopers Association.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Andrea "Andie" Claire Moxley (Daniel) of Fairmont, two granddaughters, Vivian and Evangeline, his loving companion of many years Susie Jett; a brother; a niece; two aunts; and his extended family, the Jetts.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older brother, Elliot Barr Loss, and his second wife Donna Bowers Loss.

Mike was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 629 of Fairmont and the WVU Alumni Association. Mike was a Master Mason, a 32° Brother of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, a Brother of Acacia Lodge 157 of Fairmont, and Noble of the Osiris Shriners of Wheeling, WV.

Mike had a great affinity for the outdoors. He loved riding his motorcycle, especially his Honda Valkyrie. He also loved animals, particularly dogs.
