Mickey Wayne Swisher Jr., age 30, of Morgantown, West Virginia, passed away tragically on September 22, 2026, following a work-related incident. Mickey was born on October 18, 1995, to Mickey Wayne Swisher Sr. and Jackie Cappiello-Swisher. He was raised in Mannington, West Virginia, and carried the love of his family and his hometown with him throughout his life.

Mickey was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend, and man of faith. He was the kind of person who naturally stepped into a leadership role—not because he sought recognition, but because people trusted him. Leadership was woven into every part of his life.

Mickey was a proud member of Carpenters Local 436 and worked as a foreman for Triton Construction. He took tremendous pride in his work and, more importantly, in the men and women who worked alongside him. He was a true leader who cared deeply about his team. Bridge building was not simply his profession; it was his passion. He poured his heart into his work, leaving behind a legacy in the bridges he helped build and in the people he taught, encouraged, and led.

A graduate of North Marion High School, Mickey carried his determination and strong work ethic into everything he did.

Above all else, Mickey loved the Lord and his family. He was a devoted member of Cheat Lake Community Church, where he found a church family he loved dearly. His faith was at the center of his life, and he led his family with God first. Pastor John Sommers baptized Mickey and his wife, Apryl, a testament to the faith they shared and the foundation upon which they built their life together.

Mickey was a true family man. He adored his children and poured his entire heart into them. He took great pride in teaching them life lessons, guiding them, and creating memories that would last a lifetime. He was also a proud Pop Pop to his granddaughter, Hazel Paul, a role he treasured deeply. Hazel brought a special joy to his heart, and he was incredibly proud to be her Pop Pop.

Whether fishing, hunting, riding his Harley, working with his hands, or simply spending time with the people he loved, Mickey found joy in making memories with his family.

His love story with his wife, Apryl Swisher, was one that could belong in a fairytale. Mickey cherished Apryl and treasured the life they built together. Their love was evident in the way he looked at her, cared for her, and stood beside her. He was not only her husband, but her best friend, her partner, and the person with whom he built his home and family.

Mickey was affectionately known as “the golden child.” He had a light about him that drew people in, and his presence could make a room feel fuller. He loved deeply, lived passionately, and gave everything he had to the people he called family.

Mickey was preceded in death by his father, Mickey Wayne Swisher Sr.; his grandfather, Thomas Cappiello; his aunt, Joann Jackson; and many other loved ones who were waiting to welcome him home.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Apryl Swisher; his children, Emzlea and Maylea Swisher (Elizabeth) and Emerson Swisher (Ashley); his bonus children, whom he loved and treated as his own, Clyde (Angel) Paul, Kayson Paul, and Lillian Greeson (Apryl); and his precious granddaughter, Hazel Paul, who will forever know him as her proud Pop Pop.

He is also survived by his mother, Jackie Cappiello-Swisher; grandmother, Dinae Cappiello; siblings, Tyler Cappiello, Mickaylea Swisher (Devon), Zach Blevins, Bryar Blevins, and Dezeray Collins (Bradon); mother- and father-in-law, Charles and Susan Samol; an aunt, Tracy Slaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

Mickey also leaves behind a special group of people who were far more than friends. They were his honorary siblings, his best friends, and family in every sense of the word: Daundre and Franceska Glover, James Bliss (Megan), Austin Gump, Jason Jones (Cassie), Megan Cappiello, Steve Toothman, and Krystal Lowe (Curtis). The bond they shared with Mickey was one built on years of memories, laughter, loyalty, and love.

To know Mickey was to know someone who would show up, stand beside you, teach you what he knew, and love you fiercely. He led with his heart, worked with his hands, protected his family, and put God first.

His work here may have ended far too soon, but the bridges Mickey built will continue to stand—in the communities he helped connect, in the people he mentored, and most importantly, in the hearts of his children, his granddaughter Hazel, and everyone who loved him.

He spent his life building bridges. Now, he is building bridges in the sky.

Mickey loved the Lord, and we find comfort knowing that he is now home with Him, reunited with those who went before him.

His hands may no longer be here to build, his voice may no longer be here to guide, and his arms may no longer be here to hold his family—but his love, his faith, his lessons, and his legacy will remain.

Forever a leader.

Forever loved.

Forever missed.
