Obituary

Philip Randall Mason, 66, of Fairmont, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020 at his home. He was born on July 19, 1954 in Middlebourne, WV, a son of the late John Mason and Eugenia "Jean" Mason.

Phil received degrees from West Virginia University and Western Washington University, and received his Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He loved watching the Mountaineers, gardening, grilling, camping, traveling to see the mountains, horses, boating, entertaining, and helping people. He wanted to retire and have a farm. Phil had a special drive and motivation toward progress and growth. He served Fairmont on the Fairmont City Council and as Deputy Mayor. He was a patriot and proud to be an American. He loved God and would lead prayers before meals. He served as a lector at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He gave great advice to not only his children, but also to his nieces and nephews. He had a wonderful voice and sense of humor. He was fluent in the art of sarcasm. Phil was family oriented. He had pride in his children and wanted for them to be happy as well as contributing members of society.

Phil is survived by his wife, Dr. Marie Mason; children, Paul Mason, Leah Mason, Tyler Mason, and Jessica Mason; brothers, Richard Mason, Leeman (Susan) Mason, and Arthur "Red" (Francis) Mason; sisters, Judy (Richard) Glover, Nancy (Robert) Sabol, and Criss (Todd) Lash; sister-in-law, Patty Mason; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his siblings, John (Sarah) Mason, Tom Mason, Joe Mason, Robert "Bob" Mason, and Loretta Jane Mason.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Union Mission of Fairmont, 107 Jefferson Street, Fairmont, WV 26554, or St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 1660 Mary Lou Retton Drive, Fairmont, WV 26554.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Vigil rites will be on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with Father Vincent Joseph. The Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 1660 Mary Lou Retton Drive in Fairmont, on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Vincent Joseph as celebrant.
