Raymond John Shipco, 95, of Monongah, passed away Monday, December 31, 2018 in his home. He was born in Monongah (Thoburn) on May 19, 1923, son of the late John and Anna Shipco.
He attended St. Peter and Paul School and served as an altar boy in the Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the 1940s as a Master Sargent Aircraft Mechanic. He was a graduate of Carburetor School in Maryland and taught school. He worked for Craig Motors Mechanic in Fairmont, and was a mechanic in the coal mines for 6 years. He was the owner and operator of Ray's Auto Clinic and retired in 1995. He was a member of the Fairmont Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Knights of Columbus Honor Guard – Regalia. He was a Eucharistic Minister at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing. He had a heart of gold and would help anyone who was in need.
Raymond is survived by his children, Terry Michael Shipco, Frank Joseph Shipco, and Carol Jean Miller and her husband David; grandchildren, Brian Koval, Adrienne Price, Christopher Koval, Benjamin Miller, Emily Jean Miller, Frank Shipco, and Paul Shipco; and great grandchildren, Luke, Krendren, Alliyah Lynn, Kreyen, Keillian, Aaiyah, Aazilah, Sophia Jean, Henry, Nora, Lauren, Konnor, Katin, Frank, and Paul.
In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jean Kaznoski Shipco; a daughter, Linda Koval; a brother, Mitchell Shipco; sisters, Helen Harvilla, and Dorothy Vincent; and a great grandsonson, Hunter Koval.
The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A vigil service will be held Thursday at the funeral home at 6:00 p.m. will Deacon Lou Belldina officiating followed by a ritual by the Knights of Columbus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah at 10:00 a.m. with Father Vincent Joseph as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Monongah with full military rite performed by the Marion County Honor Guard. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.
