Richard Joseph Biafore passed away Sunday, November 27 th at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born in the Watson Mining Camp on December 20, 1933. He was a 1952 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School. Richard served as a PFC in the US Army and was stationed in Korea where he was a company clerk. After leaving the service he worked in several positions at Helmick Foundry, Inc. In 1962 he married Filamena DiMaria and they celebrated 60 years of marriage on November 24 th .
For the majority of his life Richard worked with his father Salvatore and family doing landscaping around the Fairmont area. In 1963 he formally formed Biafore's Landscaping with his youngest brother Daniel. They worked over the years to expand and grow the company serving Marion, Monongalia and Harrison County. The company continues to this day in serving North Central West Virginia and surrounding area. His love of landscaping was evident in many public and private projects around the area and in his evening and weekend gardening around his home.
Richard was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Fairmont American Legion Post 17. He was an avid baseball fan and coached Little League, Senior League and American Legion Ball. Richard loved Italian American culture and was a member of The Son's of Italy and a founding member of the West Virginia Italian Men. His main love was his six grandchildren, Rachel and Regina, Kathryn and Emily, and Pete and Ava.
In addition to his grandchildren and wife Richard is survived by his children; Michael (Lisa), Rosemary (Mitchell) and Patrick (Stephanie). He was proceeded in death by his parents Salvatore and Rosina Urso Biafore and siblings Dominick, Angeline, Katy Gregg, Mary Tichenor, Loise Merrill, Samuel, Frank and Anthony. He is survived by his brothers Daniel and Virgil.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday November 30 from 1:00 to 7:00 and Thursday December 1 from 10 to 10:30 at Domico Funeral home in Fairmont. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 1660 Mary Lou Retton Drive in Fairmont. Richard will be laid to rest at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown with full military honors. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com .
