Richard Blocker, 99, of Monongah, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2026. He was born in Monongah on July 17, 1926, a son of the late Aden Albert Blocker and Alta M. Lieving Blocker.
Richard was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II. He worked at Monongah Mine then for Consol as an electrician and roving mechanic. He was a member of VFW Post 629, UMWA, and Monongah Baptist Church. He was a previous member of the Monongah Town Council. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling with his family, and talking on his CB. In later years, he enjoyed caring for his vegetable garden and lawn, and bird watching, especially hummingbirds. His favorite pastime was talking and joking with people. He will be remembered by most for his attitude and jovial personality.
Richard is survived by his children, Scott Blocker and wife Karen of Clarksburg, Vicki Nottingham and husband Tom of Worthington; stepson, Alan Tennant and wife Rebecca of Elkins; grandchildren, Jeff Blocker and wife Monica, Eric Blocker, Chad Nottingham and wife Miranda, Robert Joy and wife Mary Beth Taylor, Michael Joy and wife Lisa, Jennifer Ann Tennant, Rebekah Shoobridge and husband Jason, and Aaron Edwards; great grandchildren, Devin Anthony Joy and wife Kisha, Stephen Joy and wife Alina, Marissa Joy, Michael Joy, Colin Shoobridge, Logan Shoobridge, Elias Nottingham, Sadie Nottingham, Hunter Collins, Randyn Collins; seven great-great grandchildren; many beloved nieces and nephews, and special neighbors. He spent the last year living with his granddaughter, Jennifer, in Morgantown, where he loved spoiling her dog, Sadie, and sitting outside making new friends.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Chaiko Blocker who passed in 1966; his second wife, Lucille Ann Loss Blocker who passed in 2014; his sisters, Margerite Nickles and Alfreda Colosino; brothers, James, Carl, William "Billy," Jack, and Kenneth Blocker; stepdaughters, Barbara Ann Tennant and JoEllen Edwards; and grandsons, Christopher Thomas Nottingham and Michael Tennant.
The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The service will follow at the funeral home at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Tyler Jefferis officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at the West Virginia National Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Monongah Baptist Church.
