Obituary

Robert Edward (Bob) Colanero, 81, of Monongah, WV died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family on December 11, 2023. Bob was survived by Sherry (Myers) Colanero, his wife of 55 years. Sherry then passed away just 48 hours later on December 13, 2023. Bob was predeceased by a daughter, Marna Marie Colanero who died at birth, his sister Judith and his brother Paul. He is survived by his daughter Marcey Sullivan (Mike), two grandchildren, Emily Sullivan-Kelly (Jillian) and Patrick Sullivan, and a brother, Daniel (Linda) Colanero.

One of four children raised by Nick and Julia Colanero, Monongah was his lifelong home that he loved and cherished. Graduating from Monongah High School in 1960 where he excelled in baseball and football as an all-state center, Bob enlisted in the Air Force in 1962, proudly serving as an aircraft mechanic until 1966.

After the military Bob moved to Pittsburgh to pursue a career as a barber but ultimately found his way back to Monongah where his buddy Gary Myers set him up with his little sister Sherry. Bob and Sherry fell in love and after 55 years of marriage, they remained devoted to each other until their deaths, just 48 hours apart.

Bob spent the bulk of his career as a coal miner with Consol, eventually retiring as a longwall supervisor. Despite the long hours and many hardships in the mines, Bob always made time for Sherry and Marcey and nothing made him more proud than his family.

Bob also enjoyed an occasional round of golf. After retiring from Consol, Bob could usually be spotted at Green Hills where he was a member for over forty years. He cherished his friendships there and even convinced his wife Sherry to take up the sport so they could enjoy countless golf adventures together.

Bob will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Sherry in a private ceremony with military honors on Jan. 12, 2024. Friends who wish to pay their respects are invited to join the family at Holy Spirit Catholic Church for a funeral mass at 11:00am.
