Robert Neal Layman, 74, of Fairmont, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2026. He was born in Fairmont on February 10, 1952, a son of Shirley I. Layman and the late James E. Layman.

Robert worked at Helmick Foundry and was the co-owner of B&D Construction. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Robert was Methodist by faith. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a WVU Mountaineer fan.

In addition to his mother, Robert is survived by his wife, Terri Layman; his children, Chad Layman of Barrackville, and Carie Martin and her husband Jake of Newbern, TN; his stepchildren, Crystal Peck and her husband Tobias of Ambridge, PA, Amy Helmick and her husband Kyle of Fairmont, and Heidi Prickett and her husband Zach of Fairview; his grandchildren, Logan Merrifield, Jeslyn Layman, Dylan Martin, Isaac Martin, Elaina Martin, and Aiden Martin; 12 step grandchildren; a great grandson, Eli Martin; and a sister, Becky Skinner and her husband Chuck of Worthington.

In addition to his father, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, William Layman.
