Our beloved mother, Roberta "Mary Jane" Burks, was born on July 4, 1934 in Fairmont, West Virginia to the late John & Gussie Mae Fancher. She grew up on Chatham Hill with her 5 siblings, Robert Fancher, Percy (Edel) Fancher, Ida Mae Fancher, Marie (Calvin) Fancher-McNeal, and Elizabeth (Curtis) Fancher-Jones, who all preceded her in death.

She was joined in marriage to Samuel Burks Jr. on October 9, 1950, from this union were born 4 daughters, the late Savanna Burks, Sammie Bunkley, Mary Hennings-Howell, and Roxie Graham and they have one brother, Robert Jones.

Bert, as she was so affectingly called by her family and friends, accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.

The Loving Family moved to Cleveland, OH in the summer of 1971. Upon her arrival, she joined East Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she was an active member for many years. Roberta enjoyed her Friday Night Fish Fries, weekend family gathering and her collard greens on Sunday. She was also an avid soap opera watcher.

After retiring from Cuyahoga Community College, she returned back to her childhood home in Farmington, WV, where she faithfully served at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church as head of the Missionary department. After the passing of her sister, Elizabeth, she and her sister, Marie, moved back to Cleveland, OH.

Roberta was preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, siblings, and her beautiful daughter, Savanna.

Bert leaves to cherish with heartfelt memories, her 3 daughters, Sammie (Richard Jr.) Bunkley, Mary Hennings-Howell, and Roxie (Eurall) Graham, and Robert (Earlene) Jones, 6 brothers and sister in loves, Eloise Hawthorne, Fanny (George) Ellison, Joe Burks, Glen (Shirley) Burks Sr., Hannah Robinson and Richard (Toni) Burks, 6 grandchildren, Raymond (Jessica) Hennings Jr., Marquita Hennings, David Bunkley, Patryce Graham, Danielle Bunkley and Joseph (Tiara) Graham; 10 great grandchildren, Charles Gay, Devonte Hennings, Nicole Hennings, Kellyanne Bunkley, Hannah Bunkley, Jordan Bunkley, Jeremiah Hall, Eelijah Garcia, Joseph Graham Jr., Joella Graham, and Joakim Graham, and a host of other family members and friends who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 6:00 pm. until 8:00 p.m. A committal service will be on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Grandview Memorial Park & Mausoleum.
