Rose Marie Mezzanotte, 97, of Panama City Beach, FL, formerly of Fairmont, WV, passed away peacefully in her home on April 19, 2026. She was born in Monongah, WV, on January 8, 1929, the youngest of ten children of Philomena and Daniel Colanero.

For most of her life, Rose was a devoted homemaker, and for a period of time she worked at the Owen’s Illinois Glass Plant in Fairmont. Like her beloved father, she had a gift for conversation and could sit and talk for hours with family and friends.

Rose’s love for sports began with playing and later coaching women’s softball, but her greatest passion was football-especially West Virginia University and Notre Dame. She could happily watch football every day if it was on TV. She will be fondly remembered for celebrating Notre Dame touchdowns with her family by sharing a small shot of whiskey while wearing her lucky ND t-shirt beneath a sweatshirt that read, “Game’s On, Can’t Talk.”

Rose is preceded in death by her husband, Dave; her parents; and her siblings. She is survived by her children: Donna Mezzanotte of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; David Mezzanotte and wife Diana; Patricia Mezzanotte Craft of Winston, GA; and John Mezzanotte and wife Ashley of Atlanta, GA. Her grandchildren are Jessica Mezzanotte Sharpe, John Michael Mezzanotte, David James Mezzanotte, Michelle Mezzanotte Gasser, and Allie Grace Sperling. Her great-grandchildren are Chase and Blaise Sharpe, Tyler Mezzanotte, and his baby sister due in August, who will carry Rose as her middle name.

A Catholic Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah on June 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Online condolences may be shared with the family at domicofh@aol.com.
