Ruth Ellen (Ammons) Reed, 90, of Baxter Community, passed away Monday, October 18 th , 2021 at Fairmont Regional Hospital.
She was born in Fairview on September 24, 1931, a daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Arnett) Ammons.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Albert Lee Reed on August 2015. They were married on November 30, 1951. Ruth was a 1949 graduate of Rivesville High School. She worked at the office at Eastern Coal Company, where she and Albert met.
She enjoyed doing ceramics for her home and to give away. Many of us have ceramic pieces she made for us. She enjoyed sewing and made many of her own clothes. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed cooking and collecting recipes and cookbooks. She also enjoyed painting. She was a homemaker and loving and devoted wife and mother. Her life's greatest pleasure was caring her husband and son.
She is survived by her son, Bryan Lee Reed; a sister, Rose Linville; a brother, Joe Ammons and sister-in-law, Jeannette Ammons, all of Baxter. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law, James Earl Reed and wife Wilma of Elk Garden and Luther Bearl Reed and wife Helen of Aliquippa, PA; and several loving nieces and nephews, James and Lois Reed, Jon and Deb Reed, Mark and Joyce Reed, Julia and David Streets, Jonah and Justine Reed, Joseph Reed, Mary Kathryn and Joe Cary, Mike and Ann Reed, Rod and Deb Carpenter, Donna And Walton Bush, Brad Linville, Connie and Richard Ice, Deb Clutter, Joe and Angie Ammons, and Jeff Ammons; great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Jarvis Reed; mother-in-law, Myrtle (Haught) Reed Ammons; stepfather-in-law, Gay Ammons; three sisters, Lenora Jane Carpenter and husband Carl, Barbara Jean Ammons, and Francis Lucille Reynolds. She was also preceded in death by two nieces, Janet Ammons and Sharon Reynolds; a nephew, Bill Reynolds; and a great niece. Andrea Clutter.
The family appreciates and is thankful to Debbie Clutter, who is Ruth's niece and caregiver for the past few years, for all she has done. The family also gives special thanks to Amedisys Hospice, Holly Wilson, Renee Weekley, Donna Bush, Connie Ice, Debbie Carpenter, Kepper Martin, Faith Reesman, Susan Keener, Lana Jimmie, Susan Knauss, Nancy Lemasters.
There will be no viewing or funeral service at this time. There will be a private family graveside service with Evangelist James Reed officiating. Interment will be at the Olive Cemetery in Pentress. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.
