Sandra “Sandy” Jean (née Longwell) Walker was born on February 22, 1954, in New Martinsville, West Virginia, to Harold and Peggy Longwell. She grew up surrounded by family, music, and the close-knit ties of her West Virginia community.

A gifted student with a vibrant personality, Sandy graduated with honors from Hundred High School in 1972, where she was a cheerleader and majorette. Music was an important part of her early life and a love she shared with her sister, Debby. Together, the sisters became known for their beautiful vocal harmonies, entertaining audiences at social gatherings and church events throughout Wetzel County.

Sandy carried the talents of her youth into an adult life marked by family, work, and the relationships she treasured. Professionally, she put her skills with numbers and organization to work in bookkeeping roles for several companies, including Winner International and local HVAC company JMD Corporation.

Sandy’s life took on a new chapter when she married James Henry “PeWee” Walker, Jr. Through their marriage, two families—the Longwells and the Walkers—were joined, creating the large and extended family that became such an important part of Sandy’s life. Sandy and James were parents to Charity Colette Walker and James Nathaniel Walker III. Sandy was also the mother of Twyla Tustin.

Of all the roles Sandy held during her lifetime, few brought her greater joy than being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her “babies” fiercely and would have given her right arm for them. Distance was no barrier to staying connected. Sandy spent countless hours on the phone checking on her precious grandchildren, keeping up with their lives and making sure they knew she was thinking about them.

When she wasn’t checking on family, Sandy could often be found enjoying some of her favorite pastimes. She could spend hours on Facebook or working her way through puzzle games on her phone. She also shared a special bond with her cherished dog, Mocha, who held a particularly meaningful place in her heart. Mocha was the last gift Sandy received from her daughter Charity before Charity’s passing, making their companionship all the more precious.

Sandy leaves to cherish her memory her children, Twyla Tustin (Bryan) of Rivesville, West Virginia, and James “Nate” Walker III (Yvonne) of Grand Prairie, Texas; her grandchildren, Te’Mihya Starr Walker-Parson of Grand Prairie, Texas, Maleri Tustin of Bozeman, Montana, Malique Nathaniel Walker of Fairmont, West Virginia, and A’Mariyon Quintel Walker of Grand Prairie, Texas; and her great-granddaughter, Amyah Trinity Williams of Grand Prairie, Texas.

She is also survived by her siblings, Debby Howard of Fairmont, West Virginia; Gary Longwell (Lorraine) of Littleton, West Virginia; and Greg Longwell of Bridgeport, West Virginia.

Sandy’s extended family included nieces and nephews from both the Longwell and Walker families: David Longwell (Sonja) of Fairmont, West Virginia; Gary Longwell Jr. of Buckhannon, West Virginia; Jason Howard (Gianna) of Fairmont, West Virginia; Justin Longwell of New Martinsville, West Virginia; Jessica Howard of Lincolnton, North Carolina; Chris Walker of Parkersburg, West Virginia; Bryant Walker (Melissa) of Marietta, Ohio; Jason Walker (Amber) of Fairmont, West Virginia; Roger Walker, Keisha Washington, and Lynette Washington of Norfolk, Virginia; Danetta Rucker (Antoine) of Cleveland, Ohio; Mark Walker of Fairmont, West Virginia; and Darren Jones of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Sandy also leaves behind beloved family and friends who held a special place in her life, including Gloria Jean Randall of Fairmont, West Virginia; Patrick Robinson and Dahla Porter of Norfolk, Virginia; and Gilbert Randall, John Randall, and Rochelle Kinser of Fairmont, West Virginia; her grandson A’Mariyon’s mother LaMeekiaa Horton of Fairmont, West Virginia was a steadfast friend, constantly checking in on Sandy in person and on the phone and tending to her health after a car accident.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Peggy Longwell; her beloved husband, James H. “PeWee” Walker Jr.; her daughter, Charity Walker; her grandson, Dante Scarborough; her niece, Tiffany Washington; her brother-in-law, Joe Howard; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Linda Green; her sister-in-law, Eleanor Washington; and her cherished dog, Mocha.

Sandy’s story began as a Longwell—a bright young woman from West Virginia with a gift for learning, a love of music, and a vibrant spirit. Her story grew as she became a Walker, building a family and forming bonds that reached across generations and miles. Through it all, family remained at the center of her life.

She will be remembered in the harmonies she once shared with her sister, in the family connections she nurtured throughout her life, and especially in the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild she loved so deeply. The Longwell and Walker families together carry forward Sandy’s memory and the legacy of a woman whose greatest joy was simply loving and keeping close to the people she called family.

The family will receive friends at Agape Life Ministries, 609 Bellview Bld. Suite 1A in Fairmont, on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The service will be at the church on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Leo Riley officiating.
