Obituary

Shirley Ann Opyoke Boord, 76, of Fairmont, WV, began her next adventure after a valiant battle with cancer on January 9, 2020.

She was born in Grant Town, WV on September 14, 1943, the daughter of the late Andrew (Andy) and Emma Hollobaugh Opyoke. She is preceded in death by an infant sister, Penny Jo Opyoke; a brother, Jerry Opyoke; and a granddaughter, Brandi Nicole Boord.

Shirley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Belinda L. Boord Eagle and Brad; her son and daughter-in-law, Mark L. Boord, Jr. and Barbara; three grandchildren, Jani Ann Eagle, Adam Lewis Eagle, and Emma Lea Eagle; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Andrew (Andy, Lefty, Sonny, Chuch, Your Brother) Opyoke and Debbie, Eugene Opyoke and Jessica, Joseph (Rick) Opyoke and Joni, and Terry Opyoke and Jodi; sisters-in-law, Jo Opyoke and Oneita Opyoke; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was blessed and leaves behind her special friends, Ruth Ann Dalton, Helen White, Paula Williams, Judy Littleton, Joyce Cobb, and her lunch dates. She truly enjoyed and looked forward to their company.

Shirley attended Farmington High School and looked forward to the yearly reunions. She worked at Westinghouse/Philips Lighting and Walmart. Shirley was a long-time member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She spent her winter months assembling jigsaw puzzles and summer months tending her lawn. She enjoyed traveling the world visiting her son at each Air Force Base at which her was stationed. Her life dream was to visit Hawaii, which she did three times. Shirley enjoyed teaching her sweetie to cook and watching her perform – dancing, singing, acting, and playing piano. She also participated as an extra in a local movie production. Her sense of humor, affinity for the color orange, and deep love for family and friends will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank the oncology department of UHC, Dr. Salman Osman and staff, and St. Barbara's Nursing Home for their care and kindness, and Pastor David Rockwood for his support and comfort.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Monday, January 13, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Rockwood officiating.
