Susan Jane Monell, 92, of Monterey Park, California, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at home. She was born on January 17, 1931, in Monongah, West Virginia, to Alfonso and Frances Colaneri.
On July 25, 1959, she married James Anthony Monell from Fairmont, West Virginia. Shortly after moving to California, she began working as a computer operator at Title Insurance & Trust for more than 25 years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Montebello, California which she attended faithfully for over 60 years. Susan was also a member of the Sons of Italy Club for over 50 years where she made many long-standing friendships. She enjoyed traveling and cruising all over the world with her husband and also playing bingo, bowling, line dancing and RV camping at the family site at the Silent Valley Resort Club. She was also known for her great cooking skills, along with entertaining family and friends. Even though she moved to California after marriage, she was always proud of and loved her West Virginia roots and family.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents Alfonso and Frances Colaneri, her husband James Monell and her brother Joseph Colaneri. Survivors include her daughter Frances More and her husband Gregory, her granddaughter Danielle More and husband Forrest Zimmerman, and her grandson Justin More.
The family will receive visitors at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A Vigil Rite will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah, WV, on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., with Father Romeo Bacalso as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 820 N. Garfield Ave., Montebello, CA 90640 or Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 687 Maple Terrace, Monongah, WV 26554.
